Forge your own path
Crafted in collaboration with Japanese calligrapher Sakura, this exclusive Noren collection piece centres around the character "道" (the path). This carefully selected character serves as a source of inspiration, encouraging individuals to forge their unique journeys and steadfastly pursue personal aspirations. The artistry of this creation embodies the essence of self-discovery and the resilience needed to navigate one's distinctive path in life.
Sakura
Originating from the northern region of Japan known as Yamagata prefecture, Sakura hails from a family deeply rooted in tradition, overseeing a venerable shrine with a history spanning a millennium. Her grandfather, a luminary figure, served as not only a Japanese calligraphy master but also excelled as a Japanese fencing master and a revered Shinto priest. His influence shaped Sakura's life profoundly, becoming both her role model and guiding light in the pursuit of the artistry of "Shodo."
Sakura's upbringing in the Yamagata prefecture was deeply influenced by her grandfather, a stern yet influential figure. Despite his strict demeanour, he played a pivotal role in imparting to her the intricacies of the art of Shodo. The disciplined teachings from her grandfather instilled in Sakura a profound appreciation for the craft, shaping her early understanding of the path she would eventually tread.
Feeling a lack of joy in her life, Sakura decided to take a transformative step. Relocating to Australia marked a significant turning point, offering her a fresh perspective beyond the confines of tradition. In this new environment, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery, immersing herself in the world of fashion design. This divergence from her roots allowed Sakura to explore different facets of her identity and interests, leading her to rediscover the passion for Shodo that had once been overshadowed.
Studying fashion design and delving into the dynamic industry, Sakura found a way to intertwine her traditional background with contemporary creativity. The fusion of her cultural heritage and newfound experiences abroad rekindled her love for Shodo, enabling her to approach the art with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and a unique blend of influences.
